We followed the pedestrian river route taking a detour to Abbeystrewery graveyard, where over 9,000 people were buried during the famine.

Weather was wetter than forecasted so we opted for a shorter route that would include visiting a nearby geocache adjacent to the old Skibbereen railway station. This week we our route was a post truth tour. We each had to say something along the way that could have been true or false.

Today we decided to walk around Skibbereen looking at what appear to be vacant buildings & sites – these photos are just a small selection of the current vacancies

Lots of ideas at Skibbereen Luncheon Club, Carrig Loop, Lissard, Glencurragh Loop, Grotto Loop, Derry’s Loop – even a loop taking in all the bars in Skibbereen. It was very wet so we went for a shorter walk in Glencurragh and were totally surprised to find a fairy trail running through the little wood adjacent to the avenue – it really brightened up a very wet and windy afternoon for us.

Public Parks & Public Art – Again visiting places I had never been. Two parks – one without any name and plenty of statues commemorating O’Donovan Rossa & Cannon Goodman alongside plaques and random street furniture and of course the river Ilen.

Take me to the River. Starting at North St we explored alleyways and porches trying to take us to the river Ilen. And approached the bridge that is blocked from both sides. The question is who dunnit?

Two graveyards and a community garden – cycles of growth and death. Beautiful walk in sunshine.
