This initial foray in illumination has been tough. The light only arrived on Wednesday – but wow, was she worth waiting for – a beautifully tooled piece of equipment that can only be described as having great poise. She is big with a 2000kw bulb that was way too much for my domestic generator. Fortunately we had an electrician volunteering his services to assist, Civil Defence were great in giving logistical support too. And so having secured the light the hunt for a suitably powered generator began with only two days to go. Again we did not have to look far with Skibbereen Tool Hire generously stepping in. So tonight (Thursday) we had our first run through – working out time ratios, language devised for operation (mostly counting between on /off and stop) choreographing scenes between each location. It feels great to be started, but we are short a participant who has had an unexpected visit to hospital and who will be missed. Tomorrow night we will activate the signal light after the recreation of the O’Donovan Rossa Parade and while street lights are turned off in a first attempt at enLIGHTenment, as it is billed for Skibbereen Arts Festival.
