Linked in with the Personal Development Group running at the Sutherland Centre and repeated the Glencurragh Wood walk
Walking Tour 11 11 2016 Glencurragh Loop
Lots of ideas at Skibbereen Luncheon Club, Carrig Loop, Lissard, Glencurragh Loop, Grotto Loop, Derry’s Loop – even a loop taking in all the bars in Skibbereen. It was very wet so we went for a shorter walk in Glencurragh and were totally surprised to find a fairy trail running through the little wood adjacent to the avenue – it really brightened up a very wet and windy afternoon for us.
Walking Tour 11 – 11 – 2016
On Friday the older people in Skibbereen Luncheon Club will create a Walking Tour. Meet at Cara house at 3pm to walk the route.
Walking Tour 2 – 11 – 2016
Public Parks & Public Art – Again visiting places I had never been. Two parks – one without any name and plenty of statues commemorating O’Donovan Rossa & Cannon Goodman alongside plaques and random street furniture and of course the river Ilen.
Walking Tour 20 -10 – 2016
Take me to the River. Starting at North St we explored alleyways and porches trying to take us to the river Ilen. And approached the bridge that is blocked from both sides. The question is who dunnit?
Walking Tour 13 Oct 2016
Two graveyards and a community garden – cycles of growth and death. Beautiful walk in sunshine.
Walking Tours of Skibbereen
This Autumn why not consider participating in workshops to develop Walking Tours of Skibbereen. What would your walking tour look like? Whether you know Skibbereen as a native or not, there is always a different way of seeing what is around you. Each workshop is stand-alone and you are welcome to attend any or all of them. The first three are from 10am-1pm on 13th and 20th October and 2nd November at Skibbereen Town Hall. More dates will be announced later. Workshops are FREE of charge, thanks to the support of partner institutions.
If you can walk and talk these workshops will be right up your alley. Together we will plan themed routes based on the interests and creativity of participants. In addition we will think about different ways we can conduct ourselves and be conducted in walking. Please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk for approx 60-90 minutes, bear in mind that parts of Skibbereen can be quite hilly.
If there is sufficient interest I am happy to put on a workshop specifically for people who have difficulty in walking or who may use wheelchairs/rollators (so please let me know).
Prior registration essential. U-18s must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
Ultimately it is intended to offer the walking tours developed during these workshops to the public during Skibbereen Arts Festival 2017 led by volunteer walk directors. See also the Skibbereen Urban Explorer Facebook page
This project is supported by Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre, Cork Education & Training Board, Skibbereen Community & Family Resource Centre, Create the National Agency for the Development of Collaborative Arts and Cork County Council.

What will be born from the abyss?’
